Bird Nest Helpers

Bird Nest Helpers are filled with natural items birds use for building their nests.
Dry grass, straw, bits of wool roving from the sheep at Gale Woods Farm all get poked into the grapevine balls with chopsticks.
It is a lot of fun to gather natural materials  by hiking around school.  This program works best in April.

Have You Heard the Nesting Bird by Rita Gray and Kenard Pak

A Nest is Noisy by Diana Hutts Aston is a not just a nice picture book about nests. It is packed with information about many different kinds of nests. You will read this book over and over and still learn something new. Informational text is located all over and you will find new facts each time you read the book.
My favorite book about nests is Birds, Nests and Eggs by Mel Boring. The book describes and shows through simple illustrations what each bird's nest and eggs look like and some helpful advice. One thing I learned is that robins use mud in their nest-building and you can help by leaving a pan of wet mud out for them.

Bird of the Northwoods by David Grack is more like a workbook/coloring book about the birds in Minnesota. The exact colors are listed for each bird so when you are finished coloring the picture, you know exactly what each bird looks like. There is a space on each page to record when and where you saw each bird. If you like to find birds near your home in MN, you will want this book!
